Unfortunately, I’ve never really mastered my social self. I’m loud and goofy, and people tire of my jokes easily or don’t get them, so I tend to be a little self conscious.

Also, I’m a rather conservative Christian on the moral front. I tend to appreciate old school values, however I leave out the judgement and punishment. So I don’t make a good Republican.

I’m not progressive either. I don’t buy into political trends and am skeptical of the masses.

I read a lot of blogs. They make me want to take a stance. They make me want to be a joiner.

It’s weird, but I guess some closed off part of myself had always wanted to be APART of something. But what? Where can I find my own pro-Israeli (but be nice to the Palestinians, please), let’s live like the Na’Vi (but don’t take away the Internet), global warming is a farce, let’s all go to church, and be post racial movement?

It would be nice to know a group of locals who don’t make me feel like a dork or worse. And we could organize our own blog – charged with emotional rants about our own issues… And I could feel justified by our camaraderie!

I have a facebook page and I have a twitter account. I honestly devote enormous amounts of down time… waiting in lines, sitting on my couch watching tv, listening to people talk… actually updating my status on social networking sites. And much like this blog that I happen to stumble upon every now and then – no one reads them.

Social networking is the weirdest thing. Well, it’s actually not weird at all. It’s actually a very honest representation of my real life – no one is really listening.

I have friends on facebook, because my facebook followers are people that I actually know, old college buddies, family members, co workers. But on twitter, that’s a different story. I don’t really know anyone who twitters, so all of my followers are computer generated ad researchers who want to know what I’m purchasing. It’s sickening. It’s a hard blow to take.

Truthfully, I’m not popular in real life. People actually have to interact with me in real life – so I get that. I’m moody, I’m not very dynamic. I’m loud and scared of everything. But what does it say about you when you’re not popular on the internet either, when you can easily pretend to be cooler than you are, and you still end up without any groupies?

What it says is that the virtual world sucks just as much as the real world! And it sucks bad!

I told myself that I was going to go to bed early. 9:00 tops. It’s almost eleven and I’m still up…. listening to music on the internet.

It’s winter, it’s cold, I spend more time inside hiding from the weather… but certain melodies make me forget how cold it is. And I need that. I love that. I love the summer music. It makes me feel like I’m in love. It makes me see lavendar. That sounds a little dramatic, I can admit. But it doesn’t change my stance.

So far tonight, I’ve been listening to Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, and Corinne Bailey Rae. I needed them tonight.

Sometimes music can be like books. You can overhear other people’s stories, and to a certain degree, live through them, and experience different realities for yourself. And that’s what I’ve been doing, and I’m not tired yet.
